Health and fitness are not all that complicated. Aside from some outliers, genetic predispositions, and unfortunate circumstances most of us can practice some simple habits to keep us in good, solid health. And most of these principles are free of charge. Below I want to list a few non-rocket science habits you take take action on today without having a PhD or your own viral YouTube channel.
- Sun. But not too much. Sunlight is good for you. It not only gives you vitamin D, but it also makes your day better.
- Sleep. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Ditch the phone and read a real book.
- Nature. Nothing can help with stress and frustration like nature. Get outside away from technology. Look at the trees, listen to the birds. No earbuds.
- Real food. Be sure to eat lean meat, vegetables, fruit, and fiber. Limit sugar and alcohol. Don’t overly rely on supplements.
- Exercise. Even if it’s just a walk or 15 minutes. Just do it.
- Heat/cold. Being hot and cold isn’t a problem, it’s an opportunity to feel the world. Don’t try to be comfortable all the time.
- Meditation. Take time to slow down, close your eyes, take in your surroundings, and be silent. You need time away from the noise.
- Be social. Put down your phone. Look up and engage with the world.
- Weight train. Perform the major lifts, use good form, and train at least three times per week.
- Try new things. Get out of your comfort zone, be creative, and have fun.
- Walk. If you have something on your mind or a problem to solve, get out and go for a walk. All the great writers did.
- Stretch/mobility. Exercise, yes, but stay supple too.
- Get up early. It makes you feel like you got a headstart on everyone else. And you can just get more done in a day.
- Reduce distractions. Ditch the phone. Focus on what you’re doing. One thing at a time.
- Habits. Develop habits daily. Start small and add on each week.

Thanks for reading! Yeah, I’m guilty as any, but I’m making a real effort to be more intentional with tech.
