3 Keys to Workout Longevity

We finally round out the 7 Principles of Training with this final point. Or more like 3 points. None of the principles will be worth anything without longevity. I’m talking about consistent and persistent hard work with a heavy dose of patience.

In the original list, I stated:

Patience, consistency, and persistence are principles to live by.

  • Pay your dues
  • Muscle comes from within and must be brought out with hard training
  • Utilize a hard work ethic

Consistency
Stay consistent with your workouts. No matter if you have one, two, or five mediocre workouts in a row. The important thing is that you stay consistent and create and strengthen that habit.

Persistence
Be persistent. Yes, you may have some less-than-stellar workouts, but that doesn’t mean you can rest on that notion. Begin each workout with determination and a hard work mentality. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Patience
Above all, have a boatload of patience. Some months you might be hitting on all cylinders. Others you might feel like you’re standing still or even backsliding. Remember to take your time, pay attention to your training, and be present.

I hope you got something out of these last few posts. My ultimate goal is to help you with some of the frustrations you face and maybe show you a few new things to try out in your next workout.

Happy training!

  1. I have been having issues with fatigue the last two weeks due to a new job (which I have put my notice in) expecting more than the time can give to do it in.
The first week out of the two where fatigue was slowly building up, all I could managed was my weights and resistance band exercises and stretches.
But by the weekend I had fatigue crash, where I mostly slept. Sunday was the worst where I was in pain with it in all joints and muscles. Caused by the stress of the job. Not the exercising.

The start of this week, the first few days were still a struggle, but it’s getting better and I think I am coming out the other side to resume fully my exercises I like to do. So I hope next week will be back on schedule.
But I have been frustrated by the distruption even though I know I have to listen to my body and as well as reading elsewhere, I think I read also here about doing what you can manage and that anything is an achievement that you can do. But I still couldn’t help being frustrated with myself.
